97 GSX issues

So I put my new beach house sponsons on, and after putting the waterbox back on, the battery terminal back in, etc. etc. I first hooked up the two hoses that go onto the head, wrong. After trying to start it like an idiot with the spark plug wires off, I realized it and then tried to start it agian, it finally started but ran like crap......Changed the plugs the next day fixed the hoses, and now I'm stumped because I can't get it to go over 4400 rpms or so, and it struggles to get even there. Seems like its not getting fuel in the front cylinder closest to the handlebars....I'm insanely confused, so I checked the rave valves and the front one seemed to be sticking, I fixed that same thing, but then it sounded perfectly fine out of the water, now I'm confused.....I'm going to head back to the water tomorrow and put new plugs in again and take both rave valves out and clean them again, given I just cleaned them about a month ago......I do ride alot and hard, just looking for a little help, I jsut bought a s***load of stuff to mod it and now I'm regretting it, but it seems to be something minor.

Do a compression check first. RAVE's shouldn't be a problem throughout the lower end of the RPM. Do you still have the Grey Fuel Lines? If so, change them.

Carbs

It seems to be a carb problem. If every other idea let you down, give them a good clean with carb spray. Usually works.

Do a compression test first. If it checks out good then we can start.

well compression came out good......155 in each cylinder

It seems as if its not getting fuel correctly, it starts good out of water and runs good, but when it takes on water, it seems as if the front cylinder is not running right......like its not getting enough fuel.....Where do I start? Spark is good, I've ran the engine and unplugged the two, when I unplug the front one it still runs, not so great but runs, when I unplug the rear it dies, the rear plug looks to be running rich, but thats probably because its compensating and runnin glike hell because of the front cylinder.....the front cylinder looks like nothing is going on with fuel or anything!? I ran it for a minute and sprayed some carb cleaner down the carbs while running it but it was like 645 AM and the neighbors started looking out there windows, and they already aren't to happy because I threw styrofoam all over the shores when I replaced my sponsons :reddevil:

Just to add too.....my brother was running it and forgot to put the drain plugs in about a week ago, so it sucked up water into the rear carb, I cleaned it all out and ran it for about an hour and everything was fine, so I'm kinda leaving that outta the picture..

Like I said I ripped it apart to put the new sponsons.....then when going to start it like a dumbass forgot to put the plug wires on, tried to start it for about two minutes poppped the seat and put them on, forgot about it and then changed the plug and tried again....so here we are!? maybe its electrical? JET SKIS ARE STARTING TO DRIVE ME NUTS!!!

I'M HAPPY ITS NOT THE COMPRESSION AND THE ENGINE IS GOOD TO GO!

I JUST PURCHASED A DAMN EXHUAST, HIGH COMPRESSION HEAD, 46MM MIKUNI REDTOP CARBS, MANIFOLD, AND INTAKE GRATE TOO.....

FIGURES, MY SHIT WON'T EVEN RUN NOW!

i changed the fuel lines about two months back

There is a vacuum type hose coming from each rave (4.3mm) to a tee. From the tee the hose travels to a solenoid valve on the side of the hull right above the plugs. From there the hose travels to the bottom of the motor with a check valve just before the motor port.
Check the hoses for cracks or clogs. blow out with air while off the ski.

I don't think my raves have ever had these hoses hooked up?! are you running a 951 motor because I've seen them on these but not mine.....hm

did you pul the fuel filters out of the carbs and clean those?

Yes I put new ones in, I'm starting to think its just bad fuel.

Does your ski have the screen on the bottom of the fuel baffle?
If so it could be stopped up.

Fuel selector valve? I just fixed a ski because the old fuel selector valve wasn't flowing enough, even though it was clean.

I'll check the fuel selector valve, but I'm sure its fine, I couldn't get it off before, whts the trick?

Pop the rubber cap out of the middle of the knob and theres a phillips screw under there. Take the screw out, pull the knob, and theres a large nut holding the valve in place. Remove the nut and you can reach the valve from under the front cover. Pretty simple once you see how it goes together!
