Took my GSX out today and ran into some troubles. ran great yesterday no problems at all today I put it in the water and heard a few pops and went to give it some throttle in the ski would only lurch forward. I could give it full throttle and it wouldn't make a difference. Carbs are good and clean just rebuilt a few weeks ago. Any help on where to start would be greatly appreciated.

Was the engine responding to the throttle and the ski just not moving?

No it wouldn't respond like it should, I put it back on the trailer and it revved right up like it should.

It did sound like it backfired a few times at idle

What do your plugs look like? Did it backfire on the trailer also

The plugs looked OK it did not backfire on the trailer it ran great

Seems fuel related since its running good with no load. you said the carbs were rebuilt recently, did you do the work yourself? Also was the fuel selector cleaned or replaced and does the ski still have the original fuel lines?

Both carbs rebuilt fuel lines are new. Took it out today with no issues for hours but on the way back it did it again. The best way to describe it would be like a transmission slipping on a car. Engine revs but very slow movement. My GTX did the same thing also at the same time FML

That sounds more like cavitation if the engine revs normal. Check the clearance between your impeller and wear ring. Should not be more than the thickness of a dime. Also check your carbon seal.

Ok I will check tomorrow, only does it sometimes which i don't get

How do I check the carbon seal and what to i look for

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk

Ok so i checked the wear rings and they are hardly worn at all.

Look at the carbon seal. The boot should be pushing the carbon seal firmly against the steel ring. If not, add a couple of pumps of grease into the PTO zerk fitting. That will push the shaft back and push the ring into the carbon seal. The motor seems to run fine now?

Pump some grease in and it did move back a bit, I'm going out tomorrow so we will see what happens.

I was able to move the seal back without much effort. Is that ok

I think I found the problem. It was missing the jet pump seal. Can i use rtv?

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk

You could, but it makes more work if you have to ever remove the pump again. The seal is like $10

I wanna ride today and everyone is closed lol. Could that be the problem?

It could be. You can also try the tiewrap trick behind the bellow on the drive shaft to apply more pressure on the carbon seal against the s/s ring. Did you have a look @ the splines on the driveshaft, just to make sure they are not worn.
