97 GS Carb adjustment

I just rebuilt the carb in my 97 GS and need to adjust it to get it running right. I replaced all of the fuel lines and filters during the rebuild. I tried running it at the current settings but it loaded up and is ran like crap. Last night I reset the low and high adjusters to the factory specs of 1 turn low and 1 1/2 turns high from closed position. I found a procedure that has me running the ski at different throttle positions and reading the plugs to make the needed adjustments. Has anyone done this and how difficult is it? It also talks about changing jets but I don't want to get into that. I just want it back to OEM specs. I am planning on taking it out this weekend and giving it a try but am nervous about running it too lean and damaging the engine. Also, do I need to make adjustments to the oil injection pump after adjusting the carb?

those are the correct settings, since your ski/carbs, dont have xcellerator pump/s. Make sure the "notches" are align on the oil pump, other than that, should be good, unless with the rebuild of carbs, you changed out the n/s spring? If so, re-install the factory ones.

Got to the lake today and took it for a ride. Looks like it still needs some adjusting. I dropped the idle a little bit but it is idling rough. I tried turning the low speed adjuster in and out to see if would smooth out but it didn't. It runs at the OEM settings but the throttle response is off. As I give it more throttle it does not get faster smoothly. Seems to stay the same speed and then lurch to a faster speed. Any ideas?

Sounds like you still have fuel issue, did you replace the filters in the carbs.. Say you did that... Check everything again.. I had problems on my first rebuild too...

i replaced the filter in the carb. i did replace the spring and used what I thought was the same spring type. My kit had 4 different spring weights.

I alway use the old springs, I never have problem when I do that...
