Single engine 787 always seemed under powered from when I bought it used. For 110 hp I think my dads 12 ft aluminum with a 20 hp outboard would give it a good run for pinks. Last ride took an extra long time to plane. Noticed one rave cap sticking out of its housing, pulled it apart and the top of the plastic exhaust piston, that screws onto the exhaust valve was gone. Lots of play between the valve and the housing, I figured some exhaust blow by melted it. So I stuck a used one in from an XP that ran ok, this one did not have the slots on the valve but same year . Worked ok, boat planed, but lost power after about 20 minutes when I powered down and retried top speed. When it cooled it worked ok but after 15 min wide open powered down same thing. 10 mph max and 5000 rpm max without planeing. Pulled both valves they are not perfect but still looked ok. I thought maybe a temperature issue, does this have a temp controled rev limiter or is it something to do with the exhaust valve slots on one and not the other maybe a fuel filter. The boat has low hours sits alot but has fresh fuel. I am an auto mechanic with lots of time on bikes and snowmobiles but cant figure out this one.
