97 challenger 1800 gas gauge not working

hi all, boats is running fine,put in new wear ring and prop. gas gauge not working, got it out looks fine, replaced float, still no, but it works in my hand when i tip it back and forth , can watch the gauge on dash go up and down?? but does not work when it goes back in tank. thanks all, Mike

Float floats?....

Did you check to see if the float floats? If you got a good test on it from tipping the unit from side to side, the magnets in the float changing the resistance in your board, then all works but your float. So, did you test your float in a jar of gas to see it float?:cheers:

Check that the new float slides easily along the pickup tubes in the baffel. Old float slid nicely but I had to sand my new float to prevent it from hanging up.
