I have a 96 seadoo xp smoking a lot. I have adjusted the pump to the alignment marks and it is still smoking a lot. It is running good after I rebuilt the carbs. It was smoking a lot before and after the carb rebuild. I'm almost sure it might be a crank seal :( Is there something I can do so I don't have to rebuild the motor yet. I guess smoke is better then no smoke. Thanks Brian

Yes... with a 2-stroke... smoke is normally safe.

If it is a crank seal... then a rebuild is in order. But, sometimes it's a rotary valve seal. That can be changed.

Also... you can check the output of the injection pump... but it's rare that the pumps go bad.

Personally... I'd put in one step hotter plug, and run it harder to clear out the smoke.

Dr Honda, Thanks for the reply, I didn't think about the rotary valve seal. Is there a test I can do to see if its the rotary valve seal? If is the rotary valve seal can it be replace while the motor is still in the ski, or does the motor have to be rebuilt for this? I didn't think about using a hotter plug like a BR7ES.

Yeppers smoke is good thing on a 2 Stroke, but this one smokes like a freight train.
