96 XP Problems , newbie here- need help

makin a deal with a buddy its a 96 xp im trying to get running, before i buy it

dess key hooked up does not beep at all
has new battery
when i jump the relay, the power trim works but nothing else
when i jump the battery to the starter also nothing
checked fuses and they are good

where is the ground hooked up to the starter?
is my key working?
or do i just need a starter?

beepers fail quite often, don't rely solely on the beeps. ground is connected to the front of the starter. check fuses in rear black box first, then the front gray box.

take plugs out and turn engine over by hand under rear grey pto cover to make sure it is not locked up.

i also checked those fuses as well, and i already removed the shaft cover and have turned it over by hand

UPDATE: ok guys i figured out i had a bad ground! i fixed that , would not crank but i jumped the relay and it cranked.

SO do i just need a relay?

more than likely if you put the key in and put something between the relay and it tries to start then you prob just need a relay i bought one off ebay for 25 bucks shipped and its worked great so far if you want one faster will have to go to dealer and get raped
