96 xp oil filter

Hey everyone.

I'm currently going through a 96 xp i picked up at the end of last season. PO bought it for his wife from the 1st owner who bought it new from dealer. Needless to say, his wife didn't like the ride. The machine is very clean but of course somethings need attention over the years.

I've replaced the grey fuel lines (which were still soft and had no green sludge. guy said no ethanol fuel was ever used) and cleaned the carb filters. Pump oil is done as well.

I would like to drain the oil tank and change the filter for peace of mind. It looks like the correct oil is in there, but i know when i test drove the machine last year, the guy topped off the tank with klotz r50(?). Not much but enough to give it a red hue and that cherry smell when running. Am i ok to just drain the tank and change the filter, or do i need to drain the injector lines and rotary cavity? Would i be safe to fill the oil back up with xps after cleaning and add some oil to the gas and run the machine on the lake for an hour to burn off whats left in the lines?

No, drain that oil immediately before even trying to start it! R50 is not an injector oil, is pre-mix only not compatible with the seadoo oil.

Drain the tank, try to blow the oil out of the rotary cavity and put a new oil filter on. Then add the correct oil and bleed the injector pump.

Is there a procedure for clearing the rotory cavity out? I can't seem to find it in the manual. Same goes for filling it. Is that gravity or will bleeding the injector lines refill it? May as well replace the lines too.

I just keep the intake side hose low and blow air through the exhaust side till most of the oil is out. Gravity will fill it and the oil doesn’t circulate.

This made it so easy! Drained the tank. Blew out the rotory cavity. Changed the filter. Put in some fresh xps and bleed the feed lines. New starter solenoid and she fired right up. Thanks for the help!!
