I bought this project last week. I tested the ignition system per the manual specs. The only thing that did not test good was the ignition coil. I swapped the coil out of my good 96xp and still had no spark. I then swapped everything back and pulled the stator cover off and found it to be all rusted and had a ton of moisture. I cleaned that all up today and retested the trigger coil and the three yellow wires coming out of it. They all tested good per manual specs. I’m going to pull the flywheel so I can clean up the mag cover and the check to make sure the crank isn’t rusty and rip any seals. After I put it all back together and if it still has no spark would I be safe in assuming that it’s mpem/ dc-cdi related?

If everything you have tested comes back good then it's very likely the MPEM. Why not swap the good MPEM out of your other ski and see what happens? that will be the quickest and cheapest way to diagnose if the MPEM is actually your problem and may save you $180 if you discover it is not the problem.

On another note have you cut back the spark plug wires to expose fresh wire? It sounds like it might be a little more complicated than that, but it's worth knocking out as on option.

It ended up being the dc-cdi. I got it running and water tested last weekend! Onto the easy stuff going through the fuel system now lol!
