96 XP Finicky DESS

My 96 XP DESS has begun to act up. When I attach the key, and press the start button I get nothing. I then wiggle the key on the post and try the start button, eventually I will hit the sweet spot and be able to start the ski. Can someone point me at something to check.

Additional information:
I am able to double press the start button and the gauges come on and I can operate the trim.
I haven't had the beep in years.
When wiggling the key, I usually wait for the trim gauge to show a reading and that is my sign that the key has established a connection and I can try and start.

I had a similar problem as well. My ski would start run 30 secs and shut down as if the key was pulled off.At times i would get 2 beeps and other times i wouldn't. I found that at the times i didn't get the beeps i taped DESS post lightly and replace key and beep beep. I started ski and counted to 30 and tapped post and it would keep running.If i didn't tap post it would shut down.I replaced the post and have had no issues since.

Replaced the post this morning and problem is resolved.
