96 xp draining battery

Won't hold a charge can put a fresh battery in. Two hours later batterys dead just sitting.when we do start with charged battery when running it shuts off if we pull pos cable any ideas

well im no expert, but Im pretty sure the battery has to be connected for it to run. If I remember correctly the ignition system draws straight from the battery and then on a separate circuit the magneto/stator recharges it.
I also recall reading that if a certain fuse is blown it will cause the battery to drain. try searching some stuff like that and see if that leads you down a good path of info..?
