Anyone know if I can go with the steel half ring instead of the larger rubber o-ring to hold the stainless steel o-ring carrier forward against the carbon ring on my 96 xp 787? Seems like the half moon steel ring i bought fits perfectly in the groove, but I worry that it won't seal because the stainless o-ring carrier slides back over the top of it, which is how my hull filled up last year when the stainless o-ring carrier slid back over the oversized o-ring that was originally in the groove.
The stainless half-moon ring seems like it would be best, so I don't have to worry about a rubber o-ring failing again, but if it makes the carrier sit too far back for the bellow to push the carbon ring forward and seal, I'd rather know now while I have everything torn apart. I hope that makes sense...
And while we're on this topic, does anyone have a recommendation for a new bellow? I can't find an OEM, the store on here hasn't responded to my inquiry, and everything on ebay makes me nervous lol
