I have a spx that says 97 on the vin but the motor is a 587cc. I opened the box and it looks like 717 electronics! Is this possible. I think it really is a 97 ski the motor crapped out on the previous owner and they installed a cheaper motor. On some of the wires there are butt connnectors so some of the harness was modified.

It has a fuel and tach that worked until I installed a new hood. I installed the hood yesterday. I removed the butt connectors and lengthened the wire about 1-2 feet. I matched all the wires like it was before. I bumped the start button and nothing. The gauges dont work anymore. I opened the box to check the fuses and they are all good. I only removed the connectors. Any ideas on what to check? I have run out of ideas and gave up after a day of scratching my head.

Any ideas where I can find wiring diagram for a tach and fuel gauge? If not maybe you could snap me a pic if you have a ski with those gauge or You cna explain based off the info given

Harness 1 entering the hood yellow/red red and blk yellow to the tach red and blk go? (to the big abcdef connector?)
Harness 2 entering the hood 2 green, 2 purple those to the the oil and fuel

Off fuel gauge the red and blk wire go to the tach red and blk wire (2 pin connector)?

Thanks for the help.

Holy crap do you have a cobbled mess. You could have 720 electronics but seadoo always said the 720 mpem would kill a 587.

The colors you provided go to a 94 and earlier machine.

Yel/red =tach

Red= switched power

blk/yel...pretty sure its black/white which is ground cant find a blk/yel wire.

Power pigtails from one gauge to the other like you said.
'
green and purple are the "signal" wires for oil/fuel.

Take some pix if you need more help.

Look on ski rear black plate, last 2 numbers are year of hull.
Look in E-box for the MPEM module, unclip it and on back is a number starting 678_ _ _ _ _ _? then we will know.

What pattern color above gunwales, and lower hull color? 2" or 3" dia gauges?

The 97 had three motor mounts, earlier SPX skis used the four mounts and motor belly plate.

The wire colors must "match" , reguardless of what position are now in the weatherpac connector.
Black is common ground on all Seadoo's. Color and stripe code makes is easy. Once we have the mpem number, we can tell what color is "a" position by the wire diagram.
We illustrate an example reference, the Electrical Accessories page in the i.e. 720 engine parts manual: http://fiche.worldofpowersports.com...adoopwc&a=209&b=12&c=0-ELECTRICAL-ACCESSORIES

97 spx had a 787 the hull was yellow on the bottom, white on top, similiar to the 95 xp color scheme

96 spx had a 717 the hull is teal on the bottom white on top.

They both came with the hood with mirrors, the colors of the hood was yellow in 97 and teal in 96

Look at this reference chart and look to see what model you have.

The vin says its a 97, the color is teal. It isnt a 97 though its a 96 hull...

I have the gauges hooked up correctly. All I did was remove the butt connectors the po put on (must have replaced the gauge at one point) and extended a wire. Why isnt it working like before? All the same connections. I soldered everything this time. Possible corroded wire inside the jacket on the power or ground wire? Im off tomorrow so Ill check it out again. if you have any sugesstions or ideas I can try please let me know.

Look at my avatar ski on right. Its a 1996 SPX.

Just pull you gas tank look look at the valley tag, it will read 96, as your predicessor evidencly put a vin from a crash/destroyed ski,
and thinks he can screw you by mis-representing. We all know where these hulls are embedded numbers are. Thats what we do!
You previouly posted pics show non-oem rivets on the Vin plate. Your ski is an Outlaw.
