Bought 3 weeks ago and i've taken it out 5 times all day with no problems ran great. went out yesterday and it fired right up like usual then just died as i was taking it around to tie it up.both engines. restarted them back up and tied it up, parked the truck came back and it wouldnt do anything. no beeps when key was attached kept messing with it and it finally beeped and started.

ran about 300 yards like normal and it just died again. like the first time no beeps or anything when key was attached kept messing and finally cranked again. almost made it back but died and never would restart again. i pressed the button 5 times to get the codes and i get the short beep and long beep but when i attach the key i get nothing almost like it's not making connection.

can the dess system or key just go bad or am i looking at something worse? i don't know where to start. any ideas?

It could be a few things... but I'm going to bet that the lanyard post has gone bad. There is a little magnetic switch inside, and they do have a tendency of dieing without warning. (let's face it... it's a 14 year old switch)

If, you were just loosing contact with the lanyard... it would die, and give give you one beep. Then, when you removed it, and put it back on... it would start without massing around with it.

The last thing it could be is a bad connection from the battery. (normally the ground) but when that is the problem... it won't want to crank since it can't pull the amps needed with bad connections.

Yep... I think your post is bad.

You can replace the post without needing a re-program. The computer talks to the lanyard. The post is just the switch and the contacts.
