I have been looking at buying a 96 Sea Doo . however the key has been lost and so I can't even hear it run. So I bring to you this simple question. How do I bypass this programed / chipped no key problem . I'm mechanically inclined . Thanx guys Roger

You can't. It is a security system that can't be bypassed, you have to have the MPEM (computer) programmed to recognize a key.

They only thing you can do is jump the solenoid to crank the engine over to check compression but you will not be able to verify the ski runs.

A non-running ski in great condition is only worth about $500 because you have no way of knowing if the engine runs or how much it will cost to get it running.

Buy it on the cheap, say $200 to $500 depending condition, what's there or not, trailer etc. then pull the MPEM and send it off to have a DESS lanyard programmed to it. Get it back and go from there.. A vendor called Westsidepowersports online is reasonable and has a quick turn around. As an option, Westside only needs the MPEM, they'll sell you a new lanyard and program it.

No matter what the seller tells you, if at a minimum you can't hear it start and run, it's a dead ski and not worth much. Many have been screwed over with the all it needs is a $50 part line, don't fall for it, assume everything is bad if it doesn't run.

Thanks for responding. I got it to turn over today so I could do a compression test. .

Thanks for the info. I did do a compression test today it was 90 per cylinder. But hey thanks for the reply

May want to try a different gauge, some gauges, even new ones from Harbor Freight will max at 90 psi. You should see something between 135 and 150 psi. If both cylinders read 90, more likely a faulty gauge.

@GGuillot is right about the gauges.. and if they were really even, that leads me to think the top end is a runner. At least worth a recheck.
if you decide to buy on the cheap, i can program you a key with only having the box

if you are going to pay to have the computer programed you can have it programed to accept any key. That's what I do with my skis in case I lose the key any key will start it. Remember by doing that you no longer have the security, but the only one that knows it is you.
