Hello all,
I have very Odd problem!
I had recently pulled the motor on my 96 GTX for some maintenance. When I put the motor back in is when the problem occurred. I connected the oil lines but I had not connected the carbs yet. I turned th motor over to do a compression check. It turned over fine but when I tried again the motor locked up! Like I can’t even move it with a pipe wrench (lightly of course). I took off the pump, starter and rotary valve and still the same problem. It never fired up and I literally turned the motor over for three seconds max and no strange sounds or anything. Could it be hydrolocked? It haven’t been in water but I could really use some help!

Thank you all in advance!

Pull the spark plugs and see if it turns over.

I don’t see anything you did wrong that would cause it to lock up unless a bolt fell down the intake.

What was the 'some mantenance' you did to pull the engine out? top end rebuild? Not trying to insult you, aside from something falling down in the case lodging the crankshaft, pistons installed in the correct direction? rings can pop out and jam it on a port.

Thanks for the reply!
No top end work but I did replace all of the rubber seals for the top end. They were pretty crusty! Pistons were not touched.
I initially pulled the motor to check to see if the driveshaft key sheared. All was good so I reassembled. I have no idea why it would do this!!!

It'll be interesting what you find...I'm lost aside from what's been referenced. If you have little kids, especially boys, they like to shove things in holes when you're not looking. I had a home speaker once that just didn't sound right for years, took it apart and found a ton of little toys shoved down in it via the speaker port.

Lol... I have no kids.
It really is strange! Could it be rav valves?

Only if you overbored and didn't trim the RAVE valve or put them back on without a gasket. Even with a stock bore without a RAVE housing gasket it shouldn't hit.

This is gonna be interesting. Please post up when you find the culprit. I've done a good bit of checking on my engines from the Rotary Valve Port. I gotta see what's in there before I button it up. LOL

Yes I did pull the flywheel. What are you thinking?

He's probably thinking what I'm thinking, maybe there's some interference when you put it back on with the pick up sensor, wires, or something plugged in at the stator jamming it.

I have no idea where ther could be any interference. I guess I will just have to pull the motor, open it up and check everything out. Bummer!

Okay so I pulled the motor and removed the head and the flywheel and it’s still locked.

Should I pull the rotary valve shaft before I pull anything else?

Next, I'd pull the cylinders and look down into the crankshaft area below the rods, split the cases after that, unless the gears jammed on the balance shaft or rotary shaft or something fell down in the case I can't imagine what's locking it from turning.

Okay so here’s the update!
I’m screwd... lol!
I pulled the cylinders and the top end was roached!!! I have no reason for my 150 psi reading. The strange thing was that the shaft was still stuck. I split the case and it freed up. I have no idea why or where it was stuck. I looked in the crank case prior to splitting it open and couldn’t find anything either! Weird right? Anyway here are a couple of pics. The top half of the case looks great. I’m hoping the bottom half will look as good. What would you all recommend for a top end? Should I bore bigger or buy cylinders. As always your help and opinions are greatly appreciated!

I would like to get these seadoo’s as turn-key as possible. I feel like a work on these things more then I ride them.

Oh one other thing... if I bore out the juggs do I need to do anything to the head?

Your options are either bore or resleeve. If you bore, since the pistons are little larger, you need to make sure the RAVE valves are trimmed or they'll hit the pistons.

Or you can have a resleeve done and no need to trim the RAVEs. Personal preference, I choose a resleeve because I found a great deal on a stock bore WISECO piston set someone was trying to unload on ebay.

I sent out to Fullbore for the jugs to be resleeved and did all the assembly myself.

Yeah I think that’s what I’ll do. How much is a resleeve?

Last I checked, I used them in the Spring, on a 787 Fullbore charges $150 + $15 shipping per jug, includes the sleeve. Recommend getting pistons first, I had sent them a piston along with the jugs as a reference to verify job for stock 82mm bore, etc.

I'd call them first and see if they're backed up, you'll need to stay on them, I had a turn around of about 2 weeks, but some on here haven't been as lucky.
