ok got this far with it , when i hook the lanyard , no beep , all the lights come on , nothing happens when starter button is pushed , i pulled the electrical box , fuses are all good wiring seems to be good , i do know someone attempted to steal from previous owner(katrina refugees from new orleans surpise surprise) , but it looks like all that was done was they pushed post thru the dash , i know previous owner said that they used it a few more times since the incident , ski has sat in shed since 06 , i have cleaned post and lanyard with eraser, still same thing , pushed button 6 times , still no go , i did jump the soilenoid starter spun fine

all lights come on at first , the oil and fuel lights stay on ( i drained both and cleaned tanks but i added a quart of oil to tank but light still stays on ) im guessing i may need new ignition post and lanyard , if i get one on ebay how would i get it programmed ? im guessing bring to dealer , any suggestions? thanks guys

Check the 15amp & 5amp fuse in the front E-box. Next check the post in there the black ground wires connect to, to see if
its grounding? That post gets its ground from/at the Stator.

fuses are good , so do the ground wire run back into the e box , then from there to the stator? , where is the stator located ?

You should get a Service Manual for the '96 GTI. It will be your Best Friend! The Flywheel & stator are
the Magnito, and is in the houseing on motor front. You also should use the parts microphishe at the top
right of this page, to see the parts related diagrams. There is an electrical connector between the Magnito
and E-box. Unplug that and check the ground & output. Lots of sites offer the parts diagrams. Heres one:
http://hlsm.com/

The manual has easy to understand info & pics, on do-it-yourself wrenching, and mantaining your ski.

Yes, the MPEM ground post wire goes to the engine block in the Stator. Your ski has enabled D.E.S.S. in its MPEM. (old style). #278000822

MPEM: It adjusts your ignition timing with rpm, and controls your rev limiter and start stop buttons. Newer Carbed skis have DESS which is the Digital electronic security system, that is controlled by the MPEM as well, and then SeaDoo incorporated the CDI into the MPEMs starting in 96 in some models and then later in all models. It sends power and operating signals to specific assessory hardware. Thats why they are not universal. Specific Engine Timing, Specific assessories.

the wiring looks good , connecters look brand new , no sign of corrosion or wear , everything in the ski is factory , with exception of the attempted hot wiring , nothing engine or electrical has been tampered with , i downloaded a shop manual , but i cant seem to find a solution to my problem in it either , i may be looking at it wrong , but im thinking if there was a problem with the cpu or d.e.s.s. the fuses would be blown correct? , it still has orginal fuses in it as well

Did you disconnect & clean? "Look Good" will not work. You have to physically do it, and check where you havr power and where you don't when you should. OK? Also use a jumper cable from battery - to the engine block when you check ground. Its common on a ski this old that
the battery cable rots internally. Did you open the grey Box? On the end by magnito, pull back the Release Lever on the floor shoe the box
sits in so you can lift and pull and slip it out of the "shoe" toward the magnito, then sit it on top of Magnito, you should have enough play in
the wires if you cut some of the Zip-ties that keep the wires from vibrating around in the hull. Did you do that?

wait wait....you say you put key on, it lights up the gauges...33sec? But nothing when you hit the start button? Turns over when you jump solinoid?

If so then I would say its the starter solinoid is bad, its also a long shot the button or some wiring from button to solenoid is bad.

got beeps !!!! lol , one connector was dirty , cleaned all the connectors , got the 2 beeps ready to fire code , the soilenoid is bad too , got 11.7 volts running to it but not working , so im off to dealer to get a soilenoid tommrrow , then change pump oil , and add gas and pray she starts lol ,

on another note , i cannot find a place to hook garden hose to start out of water , i dont know if im over looking it or what , there is a fitting at the motor but there is an arrow indicating out im guessing that direction of flow

On the rear of the motors head are the water SUPPLY on exhaust side, and on the carb side is the water exit side. A "T" fitting with a cap that you attach your garden hose ADAPTER to, to back-flush the saltwater or dirty lake water. The adapter is normally stored in front compartment. Don't run on hose a long time if your ski has a carbone ring on driveshaft.

Always start motor then turn ON the hose, flush & fog, turn water OFF, then bip engine and fog, shut down.
