96 gti issue

I had my 96 gti out all weekend and it ran great with no real issues. But I notice after a good long run the temp buzzer will start going off and thee battery light will intermitenly go on and off. I have changed the temp sensor prior to this weekend and thought I was all set. When the buzzer goes off I stop and check the engine temp with my hand and it is not hot but the exhaust is fairly warm. Im wondering if I have a short somewhere when it heats up and goes away when its not. I have a feeling the aftermarket pipe is too close to the electrical box and when it gets hot causes issues. I have a water injection system for the exhaust but I am unsure if it is working or not. Anybody else have this issue? Where should I look for a short?

I did a little more testing and notice that when I start from the dock and head out all is good but when I let off the throttle the temp buzzer will come on and not shut off. Also the battery light just stays on now and I am certain the battery is charged cause I charged it before taking it out. Im wondering if these issues are related is some strange way? Any ideas?
