Hey guys, just picked up a 96 gsx. After I latch the seat at the beach or on trailer its good.
Once it get out on the water the seat comes unhooked in the front. The rear seat latch stays on. Its frustrating to say the least. I took on a good amount of water before I even noticed.
If i try to unhook by hand it I cant. What gives???

Thanks guys!

Holy crap I had a 96 GSX that did the exact same thing and I could never get it to stay latched on the front. Where exactly do you live? It seems like the seat sags over time an the latch starts coming unhooked easy

I modified my seat latch on my '96 GSX to a more forward position so it doesn't pop off during rough water riding:

Althought it may appear to be only slighty moved forward. I guarantee that the seat WILL NOTpop off from under the retaining U-bolt...

No new holes drilled.

I just removed the OEM tongue/latch thingy and put it in a vise and used(I think since I modified it back in 1998) a large crescent wrench or a hammer or whatever it was I used to "persuade" the latch/tongue thingy forward to slide even more under the u-bolt as the unmodified one is only hanging on by the thinnest of margins.

I'll assume that those pics are not a before and after....

That being said, the heads of those screws are all chowdered up, you sure they are not interfering with the loop in any way restricting the latching action?

Beat up, worn down. You can see them looking worn down by rubbing something.
