i just bought a 96 gsx last year and it ran good when i got it then at the end of the year it started to mess up at wide open throttle after ridding it for about 30 min it will fall down from 6500 to 4500 rpm and then go back up to 6500 and fall back down to 4500 several times. it only happens at wot. is this an exhaust leak? or mabee a carb problem?

Do you still have the gray tempo fuel lines? If so these need to be changed, along with a thorough carb cleaning, use the search button for tones of info on this subject. You may also want to have your R.A.V.E valves cleaned:cheers:

i plan on rebuilding the carbs and removing the gray fuel line. i carried it out yesterday and found one of the plugs in the exhaust was leaking water on the front of the engine onto a connector. could this be the problem?

So many little things in the fuel system make this symptom, just examine as much as you can, every season I begin with 5 gallons of premix and mark the tank to be sure it is drinking oil, go to the side ramp and run it on the trailor to test the water/fuel/oil system for leaks, check the battery voltage and lift the throttle a little to get all the juices flowing, sometimes you can fix things there if the ramp is not busy, other times you have to go home and return later, do this each season and you will have little if any breakdown drama.

Exhaust Raves need yearly cleaning & carb filters. Disassemble Water regulator & clean it. New plugs, Gas goes bad in three weeks or so without additives.. Bill
