Hello All

I started dismantling my engine because of this noise and initially thincking it was a shot rod bearing.

after removing top end and pistons it is clear that the rod bearing are not bad.
What else could cause this?

I'm looking at the CB shaft gears but strugling to remove the flywheel. correct tool on order. Will let you know

thanks

It has been a while since I post this one.
For thos who might be interested, the noise came from the mesh between the gear on the cranck and the one on the counterbalance shaft.
Rod bearings are fine.

Thanks for the update! I got a extra 787 with low compression that does that. I might only have to do the top end on it once I start tearing into it, I was thinking it needs a whole rebuild (still might but haven't opened it up yet).

on mine the gears looks mint but the case was welded after a CB failure probably. maybe it puts the gear very lightly out of mesh. just a supposition.
