So this is my first 787 and first two stroke rebuild. I installed a new crank into my case and everything spins well etc. I bolt up the case and everything spins turns as expected. The original mag cup was a little rusty so I wire brushed it clean. I attach the flywheel and mag cup to the case. Everything spins great still.

I purchase a new stator (ebay) and mag pickup....I install both into the stator cover. I go to attach the stator cover and there is a (unusual) very strong magnetic draw that pulls the stator and cover to the case. I get the stator cover bolted and torqued to the case.

I go to turn the crank via the PTO hub and basically cant turn it over by hand?

What did I do wrong? Did I install the stator backwards? I assume it has to do with the strong mag attraction of the mag hub to the stator?

The magnetic attraction is normal but you should not have any interference from the stator.

I would pull the cover and see where it is rubbing.

And typically any of the aftermarket parts for these skis are junk from China.
