951 Pop Off Mismatch

Rebuilding carbs on my 2000 xpl 951......lowering pop off due to adding an RD flame arrestor. I can get pop off within 2 psi between each carb but it requires me using 2 different gram springs. Black 80g and silver 95g in the other carb. Is this normal or do I have something wrong? Everything in the rebuild kit was genuine mikuni. 2.3n/s setting pop of to 18-20psi. Thanks

No, never stagger springs. You should not be going up on the needle size either if just changing the F/A.
Just go down 1 spring weight from stock and give it a try.

Why are you changing the needle and seat size?
Why are you changing the flame arrestor?

Ski came with an RD FA and was not jetted properly when i got it so I am trying to fix the jetting.....From what I read when using a FA that creates less vacuum pop off also needs to be lowered......i had a hesitation off 1/4 throttle with 95g springs last year. But when I try and use 2 black springs each carb pop off is and 5lbs out from each other. 20psi and like 15 psi. Were numbers I was getting

I just purchased genuine 2.0 needle seat to replace my 2.3......what pop off should I be looking for ? Originally it was 22psi with the 2.3ns

Are you a skilled rider?
Do you let anyone else ride your XP?
I ask because it is easy to roll that ski and it is even easier to ingest water with that ski which will kill a 951.
There is no performance to gain with the R&D.
IF it was me I would get a stock A/F and use stock jetting.

But the carb comes with 95 gram so I would try 80 gram. Or 2.3 needle and seat with the stock springs.

Id consider myself a skilled ride this is the 2nd xpl I have owned along with 2 96 xp's and a 97 spx and a js550.....but i do see what you mean! I have outerwears as well for what its worth. I do roll the ski because I ride the snot out of it and i didnt injest any water last year. Jetting now is 80 low 167.5 high with the 2.3ns and still has accel pumps. I may go back to stock FA as you suggested.....i forgot to mention previous owner installed rossier head and aftermarket reeds and cage but still has factory pipe.

Head and reeds shouldn't make a difference but you neve know.

If it was mine I would try the 2.3 with stock springs and see how it does.

Thats what i had in it before 95g spring and 1/4 throttle response was terrible if i worked the throttlw and got it above that it ran amazing.....plug chop was brownish tad rich. Low speed screws made no difference so i assumed pop of was to high.....its mostly a guessing game for me haha
