95 xp start/stop problem

I was out testing out my rebuilt carbs today to take my ski on a trip toamrrow and i have yet another problem. At first everything was fine started right ip in the water ran great. I killed it with the start stop button. Then it starts on its own and runs. I jump on it as it starts leaving the dock and it dies without me touching anything. I unclip my lanyard and all the guages are still let i can still move the vts up and down as if im holding the start stop down. I removed the rubber cover thinking the new on i put on is jaming up but no such luck. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

What model, 720 or 800 motor? Are you telling us you put a start-stop switch on
your handlebar? Why? Was it used or new?

No the normal stop start above the vts. And its a 720

New red button, OK! The revolveing switch underneath may be broken and shorting
thus cause of problem. Shop Manual has the test proceedure to check it.
