95 XP Not starting

Need suggestions on what do to.
I acts as if it is going to turn over but will not.
Where do I start. (or where do I tell the guy working on it to start more like it). Just got it used and have no idea where to start on it.

Well theres tons of reasons for a no start condidion.. So you can search through the forum and find info..

That aside, theres some main things to start with. Do you have good battery power? Hows your battery connections? Starters do wear out it could be time for a new one. Is the engine locked up?

I don't know about the other stuff.
If it sounds like it is going to start can the started still be bad?
How do I know if its locked up?

Will the engine turn over by hand?

I don't know. I am not sure how to do that.

There will be a cover (or should be) on the PTO (power take off) (rear) side of the engine. Take the spark plugs out, take the cover off, and see if you can turn the flywheel/shaft that you can see there.

Sounds like you need a hand over there :hat:

What I do know of the engine is that it has a new battery and turns over just fine.
When the spark plugs are removed, gas is shooting out of the plug hole...
Sounds to me like a carb is stuck wide open and dumping raw fuel in.

Have you purchased and downloaded the pdf manual?

That would be step 1 if you wanna do this yourself.

If not, have you searched for local service centers?

No I didn't buy the manual. I wanted to see what all he had with it.
I'm just happy to have it at my house at this point. It may not be running but it looks good sitting in my drive way. hahaha:willy_nilly:

glad you now have possession of it!

First thing, establish the model and engine size you have.

Knowing what you have makes it easier to understand the unit and the issues in starting it.
