95’ Seadoo GTS - runs 10 mins then only idles

Hey gentleman! I bought a used gts, rebuild the pump, replaced all the fuel lines, bypassed the selector switch, tore down the carbs and cleaned them, replaced the plugs, battery and rectifier. I’m at a loss here.

Ski starts perfect, idles perfect, then I drop in the water and launch and it run perfect - all throttle ranges... for 10-15 minutes, then it bogs and won’t go above idle.. sometimes throttle makes it die... others it just bugs and does nothing. Any ideas?

Clogged fuel vent can cause this symptom. 10 minutes of fuel consumption will cause a vacuum in the fuel tank because the vent is not letting air in. An easy test for this is to open fuel filler cap next time and see if it clears the issue.

When you went through the carbs, did you rebuild with new gaskets, filters and needle valve assemblies?

Did you pull the gas tank and clean out all the debris and residual slime from the tank? Have you checked with BRP or local dealer to see if your unit is under the fuel tank recall?

Is the water seperator still in line, or did you bypass it also? If not, you could be sucking air there. If not still inline, then you could have pulled some junk up from the tank and clogged the internal filter and or plugged an orfice.

Pulled the tank, it’s clean. No I didn’t get new seals/diaphragms - the motor looks recently rebuilt. everything in the carb looked in really good shape so I didn’t bother. I pulled the separator on the water because it was damaged, but it did run fine for a whole day after doing so. I’ll get a new one and revisit.

I didn’t know there was a recall lol I can call and ask Monday.

If its one thing I have learned with my two seadoos, is the carbs on these units are very tempermental. If none nothing else works, i would suggest going back through them. It is a PITA, but it might help.

After my first rebuild, the screw holding the needle valve assembly came loose on the PTO carb while I was on the lake. It ran just like you described, it wasnt till I pulled the spark plug to that cylinder, that i saw was blowing raw gas out the top. The sucky part was that I double checked everything twice, including the pressure tests, but it was something simple that i missed. Now I blue loc-tite that screw, so it cant wiggle loose. Live and learn.

I am not positive on which years were under recall, but I know either my 94 or 95 GTX qualified. They can check with your HIN/VIN, but my dealer required the unit to be running. I guess they want to avoid people claiming nonfunctional units, then selling the new tank on ebay. if you unit idles, that would be enough.
