I removed the rotary valve housing to gain access to the carbs to rebuild them. There is an oring and a thin piece of metal that covers up a couple of hole on the block. I was told if the thin piece of metal stays in place that I would not have to time the oil pump or rotary valve and just bolt up the oil pump/rotary valve cover. Well in my infinite wisdom I left the lanyard plugged in and accidentially bumped the start button which rotated the thin metal piece on the block exposing the other hole. Do I need to time the rotary valve now?

The "Thin Metal Piece" is the rotary valve. You don't have to time the pump. If the rotary valve didn't come off the splined shaft... you should be fine to bolt the manifold back on. BUT... if it was my ski... I would double check the timing since it's all apart.
