I have a 94 seadoo xp I’m tearing into to rebuild. The compression in front cylinder was 90 and the back was basically no compression. So I started tearing it down and the back piston head looks like it got pretty hot. I’m new to working on skis but I’m mechanically inclined to an extent. My question is about the cooling system in the 94 xp, does it pull freshwater through the engine before leaving the exhaust?

The cooling water flows from the jet pump to the head/engine then exhaust. At least this is what is shown in the manual for my 97 gtx. Do you have a manual? If not download one. It will help a lot as will this forum.

Yes, the main coolant intake line is the large black line connecting to the pump right above where the drive shaft goes through the hull. The jet pump provides the pressure to push water into the motor and then out the exhaust, and a couple other smaller lines. The faster the pump spins the more water is pushed through the motor.

My main ride is a 94 XP that I rebuilt the motor and pump, crank, pistons, pump shaft and bearings impeller, liner, carbs.... It was trashed when given to me.

If you rebuild the motor rebuild the carbs with original Mikuni carb parts. Any motor rebuild should include the carbs since they are the root of many motor failures.

Replace the grey fuel lines with new fuel lines, the grey ones deteriorate inside and cause carb/running problems.

Clear out all coolant lines and passages in the cylinders, exhaust manifold and pipe.

Just to clarify, the piston looks like it got hot? Or were you refering to the cylinder head showing discolored paint as a sign of overheating?

BTW - Welcome to the forum!

Alright that clears it up a bit, and yes I was referring to the piston looked like it got hot. I was assuming it was from a clogged filter in the carbs I have them off too and planned on going through them also. And yes the fuel lines were replaced.

Did you the "the carb rebuild thread" at the top of the 2 stroke forum? Study it, follow it.

Use only original Mikuni rebuild kits, they are worth the extra money.
