I recently had a 94 XP seize (lack of oil from cheap*** oil line) I have to have the cylinders bored out and the machine shop told me 20 thousandths over will take out the score in the cylinder. with going to a bigger bore is there a need to increase fuel through the jets to the cylinders??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bore?

You will proabably not need to re-jet. You should be able to make carb adjustments to take up the slack. Make sure you keep a check on the plugs for burn.

It doesn't seem like he should be going over .020" for the first bore over. The standard bore on the 657X is 3.071". The first bore is .010 over, the second and final is .020" over.

Which, I wondered what the cost is? Because now days, the labor of a machine shop is expensive. Most only use them when their modding or have a relative or the like who'll do it "free" (my fav word) or cheap.

You can replace the engine for $745 with an exchange or $475 for a complete upper rebuild kit (with core exchange). So, I'd be crunching numbers to see what was more feasible.

Bore?

I have been in the snowmobile business for about 15 years and i have a good guy that will bore them out for me at $45/hole. When I took it to him to have him look at it he said that 20 over would take the scores out of the side of the sleeve. I have had very good experiences with the Wiseco pistons as that is what we recomend for a sled. I also have another question about a motor I have. A guy I know through snowmobiling gave me a 94 XP that had a hydrolocked motor in it. When at the repair shop to be fixed someone stole the cylinder jugs, flywheel, starter etc. so know i have just a block with the crank in it. I am planning to repair the ski and sell or keep and was wondering that if all the 94 XP's have a 657X motor. I know the one i am curently fixing is a 657X and was curious if there is a way to tell if it is a 657X by looking at it or if someone knows if all the 94XP had a 657X. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Differences.....

There are mostly internal differences in these engines, performance wise. But, from what I read somewhere, it was brought up that head height was different. This was to say that the clearance in the hulls of the 657X would not fit in the 657.........

But, to go on, all the 94 model XP's (5854) were 657X's, not to be confused with the XPI's (5855) which were 657's.

The pump horsepower in the 657X is 31, the 657 is 27. The corrected compression ratio in the 657X is 6.4:1 and the 657 is 6.9:1........and a few others.

Your one of the lucky ones. As I stated above. One of the few that have a machine shop where you know somone who will give you a good price. $45 bucks a hole isn't too bad. And if he's trusted then, he's either measured or knows by experience that you need to go .020" over.

Thanks seadoosnipe

thanks for the information, the code on the back of the ski is a 5854 code.. I am changing the ski from oil pump to premix as well.. Is there a specific oil to mix with or can i use the XPS-II that i have already. Also are there any comparable oils to use that are a little friendlier on the wallet that you are aware of??
Thanks again for the clarification.
