94 XP 657x oil leak from crankshaft seal
Hello everyone, I'm new here but have found this site to be quite helpful. Here comes my question. I have a 94 XP that I rebuilt the top end on last year. Ski ran great all season, winterized it, started it up this year and ran great first few days, then would not start. It has an intermittent no spark condition and when it does spark, its weak. I have narrowed it down to a faulty stator, pulled the cover and flywheel and found some bare wires and some metal debris sticking to the magnets. What I also found was some oil in the housing, obviously from the front crank seal. I'm assuming this housing should be dry. The amount of oil was not excessive, but enough to cause a small puddle in the hull. My question is, what is involved in replacing this seal? Does the case have to be split? Also, are there factory timing marks on this case for stator replacement?
Thanks in advance.
