I just bought a 94 speedster and i have a 95 sportster that is in excellent shape. the speedster needs interior reverse gate and cable and a cover for the electrical box. Everything else is whole and it has a cover and a nice trailer. I can fire both motors up by jumping the silenoids and putting mixed gas in the carbs. It wont start up at the start switches i dont know why? I have bypassed most of the safety switches, I havnt bypassed the start switch itself. Each motor is giving me a compression reading of 180-185 on both cylinders. I'm trying to decide if i would be better off to spend a little money fixing it up and selling it? Or just parting it out as is? Any opinions?

I would say my sportster runs about 40 with 2 people in it. It moves pretty good for what it is maybe 35 not really positive. I love it because it is really easy on gas. The speedster sucks way more fuel.

Ytown34…

Just an FYI… His 95 sportster has a smaller engine than your 96. The 96’ was the first year for the 720 engine. Your boat (if running right) should get into the mid 40’s without too many problems.

If it will fire up… then you can go either way with it. The engines are worth +$400 each on ebay… and you will make a killing on the rest of the parts.

The 94 didn’t really have an MPEM… so you could figure out where your short is, and just hook up a relay to turn power on and off. (I think it even had stand alone rev limiters)

My personal thought would be to part out the speedster. Then, in the spring, sell the sportster, and with the cash from both of those… buy a more modern boat.

I like my sportster… but if I had the cash… I would upgrade to a 4 stroke boat. (non supercharged)

Good luck

I fixed the electrical problem and both motors run perfect and all gauges work on the speedster I took it out last weekend an you couldn't ask for it to run any better I'd say it will run 55 just guessing. I found all the parts and interior I need and they are supposed to be on ups. The only thing I havnt found I the reverse bucket and bracket that it mounts to. So far I have 750 in it and I need a reverse bucket. I a thinking it would be more work stripping it all and trying to sell I all. Then just to put the new interior in it and buff it out and sell it an buy me a pontoon boat and keep my sportster. Th thing is I know how to work on the old rotax motors a bit. And I don't think I would have much luck with one of the newer 4 stokes with how complex they are. It would be ashame to tear this boat apart when it run perfect. Somebody can have alot of fun with it I believe. I don't want to put gas in the speedster it sucks to much for my billfold to withstand.
