hey guys, little background... I bought 2 seadoos package deal, spx and an sp.

The sp needs and engine and I was wondering what I could put in there? Thanks.

Currently it has everything minus the block.

According to the specifications your ski takes a 587 Rotax engine. Since it has the MPEM I would get the 587.

When you say everything, does it have the carbs., exh. manifold, magnito, pto, etc., all engine accessories? If so you could get the block, but you will need a core. If the engine is not complete look for a good used complete engine. Keep in mind you will need a rebuildable core, even if you only need the short block.

You will need more advise than I can give you, about putting a different motor other than stock.

A rebuilt short block is going to cost $1000-1200, and you will need a rebuildable core. If I were you I would try to find a good used motor, unless you're in love with the ski, or everything else is in great shape, it's probably not worth the price of a rebuilt block.

Check with minnetonka4me he has a bunch of used skii's he's parting out, he maybe able to help.

theroreticly you could put any engine you had time/money to put in. but i agree with lou, unless us go back to stock you'll have to do some modding.

It's kinda hard to say, you're rolling the dice with a used engine. Is it complete or just the block? Do you have any information before the engine was pulled, compression, engine noise??? Was it running before it was pulled? Probably a good price if the seller can answer the questions.

It's your decision but considering what you can part the ski out for, you need to ask yourself is the ski worth it.

I got both the ski's on a double trailer for 1700. so the way I see it is that I got this hull free and whatever I gotta put into it is the price I "paid" for it. I do love a summer project so parting it out actually hasn't even crossed my mind. I plan on doing a top end in both of them next summer either way.

"Used 92-96 Seadoo Engine Motor 580 White No Core SP SPI XP. Came out of a good running machine. Has 150lbs of compression per cylinder. Pistons have minimal to no scoring. Motor still looks almost new. Rotary valve surface looks brand new. It is a short block engine, the extras included are an intake manifold setup for dual carbs, rotary valve and cover, oil pump, and drive coupler. The dual intake manifold can be unbolted, and it is possible to put a single carb intake manifold. Has usual wear and tear - nicks and scratches."

Is the exact ad for it.

first:
the bad thing about used engines is you don't know how they were maintained/cared for. and unless you get some sort of warranty i would not touch it with a 10 foot pole.

Second, out of parts it all depends on the condion of the parts. if i where i would either get a 587 for somewhere like sbt, or find a donnor ski( one that was take care of and has mpem problems or a cracked hull) and drop it in and have a good ski that will not leave you stranded out on the water somewhere.

The best way to determine how much your parts are worth is to check EBay. IE I've seen complete working MPEM go for around $ 500.00, the jet pump $ 200-300, seat $ 100.00, hood $ 125-150. Other valuable parts, gauges, wiring harness, fuel, oil tank, carbs, factory pipe, exhaust manifold, water box.

The downside is you have to advertise, ship, collect money, kind of a pain.

hmm that sounds ok, I'm trying to weight the options of parting it or fixing it because I've found a 96 seadoo xp 800 for 1700 on a trailer and if he's willing keep the trailer and drop the ski price then I might buy that and part the sp

I just bought a 96 XP, really fun ski, small fast, I love it. You won't be sorry, bought mine for 1200 including trailer. All mine really needs is the hood repainted, buffed out, and a good coat of wax, mechanically it's close to perfect, I think with a good cleaning it will look great. 110HP on a small ski, runs like a scalded dog.

so the dildo wanted $1500 without the trailer... LOL

I bought the engine and ended up getting it for $550 shipped for the SP. hopefully I can get 'er going!

1500 was firm and no trailer. I would have taken it for $1000 or $1200 no trailer but the guy didn't seem like a nice guy anyways so I said no prob and that was it.

Those are crazy prices...if you want to actually sell stuff. MPEMs are worth 150-200, pumps are about $125 lately, seats and hoods have to be mint and even then you only get about 75+ shipping. 580 stuff has been totally dead the last few years.

You hit it right on the head about all the work though...people with junk skis asking too much alway forget a part out guy has to spend a lot on time and money selling the few parts that are still worthy of selling.
