This is all very new to me and I'm a Rookie so please be kind. I just picked up a 1994 Seadoo XP that had been sitting in a garage since 2006. The guy said he doesn’t think it was winterized before it was stored so I can only imagine what’s wrong with it. When I picked it up it we couldn’t even get it to turn over. When I got home I put some new plugs in it (he had the wrong ones in) and put in a new battery and it fired right up on the first try but it immediately shot up to around 5000RPM. I turned it off, took out the air filter on the carbs and sprayed some carb cleaner down into them and gave it another shot. Now it idles around 3500-4000RPM (shop manual says it should be 3000RPM).

I've been searching through the forums all day and still haven’t gotten far. I am definitely a victim of the grey fuel lines which I will be replacing, but I also wanted to take the carbs out to give them a proper cleaning and possibly a rebuild. My problem is getting the carbs out. Does anyone know of a way to do this without removing the rotary valve cover? I am in fear of messing up any timing as I am very new to all of this and don’t want to create more work for myself. I read through all the walkthroughs/stickies on the site but nowhere has detail or pictures on how to remove the carbs, it just says to remove them.

I also noticed a stream of gray/white in the water run-off that was coming from the jetski when I had it running on the hose, is this something to be concerned about?

Also seeing this machine sat so long what should I be doing to the machine to ensure I get a good long life out of it?

Thanks,
Colin

First thing is to drain all the fluids, and replace with fresh. Also... change the little oil filter in the oil feed line, then bleed the system.

For now... don't get hung up with an idle speed... you really can't adjust it out of the water. You will be looking for about a 1500 RPM in the water... or about 3 ~ 5 mph idle.

Also... before getting too deep into things... replace the fuel lines, and clean the carbs. Spraying carb cleaner down the throats won't help internal issues.

Good luck

Thank you for the quick reply Dr Honda.

When you say all the fluids are we just talking the gas or is there a list of things I should be draining/replacing?

What do I need to do to bleed the oil the oil system and is there a quick way to check to make sure the oil and gas are mixing properly(or at all)?

I plan on taking the carbs out for a good cleaning and possibly rebuild following a manual I found here but do you have any recommendations for getting the carbs off the manifold without having to remove the rotary valve cover?

Thanks,
Colin

Hello...i rebuilt carbs on a buddy of mine ski and it was a 94 xp like yours. You dont have to remove the manifold to get the carbs out.Just stick a very small flathead screwdriver behind the rubber lining on the flame arrestor to expose the screws that hold the air filter basket.Just make sure to close the choke on the carbs so no screws fall down into them!!!Then you will see the large allen head bolts that hold the carbs on(four of them)...take pictures with a digital camera so you can see how everything goes back on including throttle linkage ,choke linkage and fuel lines!!!Very inportant!!!Good luck...its very easy and download a manual!!!
