bought a gtx that was running. rode it 4 a day and it just shut down with plenty of oil and gas in it. turned over fine so went to check for spark. no spark .checked all the wiring for corrosion or bad connection and was all good so went to check for power at the coil and had nothing was wondering if there is a way to rule out the mpem? or if anyone else has ran into this problem before. i would appreciate all the help i can get thanks

Make sure the plug on magnito houseing is fully plugged in. Might be water in the grey box, or a wire disconnected in there. Check the fuses
on the MPEM (black & grey module in there) a 5amp & 15amp. Pull back the release lever to slip the box out of the floor shoe, gently pull it
up and back til you have it on top of the magnito houseing to open it. Removeing the battery makes the task easy.

allready pulled box and checked all fuses and wiring dont see a plug on the magneto wire.thanks for the response but i was curious if there is a way to check to see if i am getting signal from the mag and how to go about this

To figure out what's wrong, unplug the black/red wire between the coil and mpem (part with fuses) and see what happens. If it has spark then the mpem probably has an issue. If no spark, either the stator or coil are to blame. Also if it starts like that, you use the choke to kill engine, since the kill switches will be bypassed. Check your choke butterfy first, with airbox top off, A towel over arrestor can smother it too.

awesome i prolly wont get to try that till friday or saturday morning but will try as soon as i can and will let u know the outcome i really do appreciate the help

No spark pulling the red and black wire so didn't get a chance to go to the next step on checking the stator or coil what would be the best way to go about it

i have a 96 gsx 800(787) motor i got used and it didnt have spark. what i found is that the mpem has nothing to do with spark. on my ski, the trigger coil sends pulses to the cdi which gets its power from the battery and inturn sends voltage in pulses to the coil via the white wire that goes to the coil which takes that voltage and sparks the plugs, so if you have the same ignition system, check all fuses and connections then check for voltage at the coil white wire while cranking, if no voltage there you need to check to make sure the trigger coil mount has not broken, you have to take the mag cover off to check it, now if thats ok, you should check the signal wire from the trigger to the cdi box, it should have a very low voltage pulse while cranking and if thats good then i would think the cdi box is bad which turned out to be my problem, got one used off the bay and it runs now, I'm just not sure if your ski has the cdi ignition system but its got to have the same basic system maybe without cdi box. I'm new to these jetski's so i dont want you to think i'm all knowing, i'm just learning like you, jerry

dont think i have the same ignition system as you b/c other than the mpem the coil which has one ground and then one red and black wire on the coil{part with the plug wires coming out of it}and the stater relay thats all i have in the whole box didnt see any white wire coming into the box thats why i was a little confused on pulling the red and black wire that it would get any spark??? thanks for the response

has anyone replaced a stator and magneto before just trying to find out before i dig into it if it would be easier pulling the engine or just pulling the flywheel in the ski?????
