The ski has no spark but if I unplug one of the black/red wires going to the coil(inside the gray box) it fires up fine but has no kill switch....what could be the deal? As soon as I plug it back in it dies. I am new to these machines and am learning as I go. Thanks for the help. [/I]

If you disconnect the red/black wire between the mpem and coil and it runs, you have a problem in the mpem most likely the rev limiter.

So.....expensive and difficult or just some time and a bit of dinaro...? Thanks for the quick reply...this is all new so I am still getting my feet wet.

A bit of history on the ski - it has sat for a few years, was winterized and kept covered but the cover did get blown off last year. It is very clean inside and especially in the gray box, so it seems as though it was maintained. They (family friend) said it ran great when they parked it - I know it's the famous line.

If the module is bad could it be from storage or is this why they parked it? I see its $400....that is twice what we paid for the machine and doulbe trailer....:ack:

The new after-market module should be here Monday or Tuesday. I got it for about 180 shipped through a friend at the dealer.

Are there any tricks or tips on installing the new one or is it just plug and play? Thanks for the help and I hope this gets us up and running.

189 buks, for aftermarket one...;)

I'm reading your troubleshooting and the answers you're getting with great interest. I have a 93 XP with the same exact problem. I'm not close to it as of right now to try diisconnecting the red and black wires to see if this changes things. I know mine will sometimes start but run intermittently and then shut off. As soon as I have the chance I'll do the disconnect thing.

Oh, this one was stored from 2001 on and was never started either. The same reply from the old owner "It ran great when I put it away". I just don't understand how a component can just go bad from sitting? I've worked on boats new and old cars and trucks my entire life and have not seen this? But as with anything I'm not familure with, I certainly don't know it all. But I'm sure willing to learn from someone who does.

I know this one isn't a fuel issue because it has spark, it starts. When it quits, it has none. While reading your post I noticed how close in relation my problem was to yours. I hope you don't mind me trying to learn from everyone including you?

I hope you fix yours with the part you ordered? But right now this place is a wealth of information with some great people here to help us who know nadda, out. Good Luck!:)

I will certainly post my results and I too hope the module solves the problem. Keep an eye on this thread and good luck with your ski as well.

Well, I got the new aftermarket mpem and swapped it out with good results. The ski started right up. What I have now is the buzzer going on after a few seconds of running. If I unplug the temp sensor it goes off. Is this a bad sensor or is it getting that hot that quick? I turn the hose(to flush) on and start the engine...then shut the water off and kill it...is this the proper method? Thanks for the help this far, it is greatly appreciated.

Oh, and by the way, I am unsure of where I got 1994 from for the year of the ski but is a 1992....my bad!

yeah be sure to always start then turn the water on and then turn the water off then stop the ski or you get get it water locked.

oh and be sure not to run it for more than a couple min on the hose.

white....go ride the ski, then if you hear the beeping sound, pull the seat, and feel the exhaust pipe and motor, if to hot to touch, then you have a blockage somewhere, if not, bad sensor, and just leave it unplugged.

Taking it to the water is next...now that it runs. Thanks and I'll let you know how it turns out.

Good Luck to you my friend. I am hoping the buzzer is just something that will take care of itself once you run it while it's in the water.

Have fun, and be Safe.
