93 XP when you hit the starter the starter clunks hard and with the plugs out the pistons barely move. is my motor locked up? it was in storage for 3 years and never cranked over?

Spray some penetrating oil or fogging oil down the cylinders and see if it frees up.

Not having a lanyard will not let the engine turn over because the starting circuit is disabled. However when you remove the spark plugs the engine should turn over freely by hand.

When you say you don't get a spark is the engine turning over??

Does your ski have an MPEM or just a kill switch?

Lou

where does the lanyard go on this cause i wasnt givin one so im not sure how that works?

When I hold down both buttons the starter clunks hard and i can watch the pistons and the "flywheel" move about an 1/8-1/4 inch.

how do I know if it is an MPEM or a kill switch set up?

O.K., I checked the wiring diagram for your ski, you have a kill switch, no MPEM.

I still don't have an answer to my question, after you have put lubrication down the spark plug holes, and the spark plugs removed can you turn the engine over by hand?

Lou

Should i be able to spin it over by hand by moving the white flywheel on the rear of the ski? cause if that is what you mean then no I cannot move that piece over by hand.

I'm still showing no spark also?

Can i put something on the shaft/flywheel like a pipe wrench to give me more leverage to try and get it to spin and not really damage the shaft/flywheel in the process?

Since you can't turn the flywheel your engine is locked up, you won't get a spark unless the engine turns over.

You will probably need a complete rebuild or a crate engine.

It's possible that you could do a top end rebuild, pull the head off and see if you have rust in the cylinders, if you do you will probably need a crank bearings and crank also. If the piston rings are just stuck you might get by with a top end rebuild.

If you can't turn the engine over by hand don't force it, you'll do more harm than good. You're going to need to pull the head to see what the problem is. I'm afraid you're looking at a rebuild or a crate engine.

SBT has a 657 crate engine for $595. seems pretty inexpenxive compared to a rebuild especially if i need a new crank. what do you think?

That's a great price, you know thats only the "short block". You will need to take off all the external components off your old engine, like intake, exhaust manifolds, carbs., starter, etc, and put them on the new engine.

I also would get a local mechanic to look at your old engine before I made that jump. Maybe someone on this forum who lives near you. Start a new thread "local mechanic needed". You could have other problems other than the engine is locked. You might save yourself some money in the long run.

I went to the local sea doo dealer. they said I might just have seized crank bearings. they told me to take the old motor out and they could possibly just put new bearings ans seals in the old crank and get it spinning again. so I am trying to get the motor out. I have the exhaust side off and starter out. I was going to leave the intake side on since I cant get to the bolts very easily. but I cant figure out how to unhook the big white "ROTAX" box on the front of the motor its got that big black cord in the top of it. I unscrewed the cord and realized it does not just come unhooked. I wanted to leave that hooked up when I take the whole bottom end to the dealer for them to remove the crank.

For what its worth, I have two '95SPX which sat in a garage for three years also. Both engines were semifroze up. I did use a pipe wrench to get them unfroze and now have had both engines running. No damage by using a pipe wrench in my case... just take it easy. I repaired a VTS, cleaned out fuel system on one and its now OK. The other one had lots of oil in cylinder, but I got it urning over and spitting oil out the plug holes. Finally got it started also and oil smoke was heavy for a few minutes. Now problem is getting carbs off since bolts are stuck.

I did try that but i couldnt get mine to spin, so im taking it out but that white "rotax" box is holding me up right now. as I watch the jet ski season in my area dwindle
