I’ve been working on this 93 SPX with a 587 for the past few months. Hadn’t run for over a year. I removed and cleaned both fuel and oil tanks. New oil filter and new oil pump delivery lines. Reinstalled and primed the oil inlet line by removing bleeder screw until it was dripping oil. I started it on premix and held the pump lever wide open at idle to bleed the delivery lines. PTO side filled right up but MAG side did not. Had sucked a bit of oil through but mostly drawing air. So then I used the starter method to try and bleed. Watch the oil slowly pulse all the way up that MAG side hose in short intervals. At this point both lines were completely full. Started the ski and the MAG line emptied and was just drawing mostly air again. PTO side still full. Tried the same thing at a later date with the same result.
So I pulled the carbs and oil pump manifold off again. Bench bled the pump by chucking up the gear in a drill. It primed just like it should in both lines. Pulled the MAG side banjo/check valve and verified its cleanliness and function. Made sure all clamps were tight. Reinstalled banjo and bled again. Both lines full. Reinstalled into the ski and started it, and once again the same dang thing happens. MAG drains and just sucks mostly air while the PTO line stays consistently filled. What am I missing???
