alright, so i got this 93 sp 580 on 4th of july weekend that a buddy of mine gave to me for free. i knew it ran good before, but he told me that it wont run in water but runs good on land. another friend of mine said it was a head gasket that blew. so last week i tore into the motor to do that but found out it was blow rings that destroyed the piston. so i got a new piston, cylinders honed, new rings for the other piston, and new needle bearings. i went to pick up the parts on saturday and the guy said that i should have the crank looked at which im probly guna have done. i was wondering how hard is it to get the impeller off, and is it easy to get the motor lined back up properly to be straight with the impeller

thanks, Kyle

The crank should be rebuilt since it's an 18 year old engine.

The impeller is easy to remove with the right tools.

I don't recommend trying to align the drive without an alignment tool. It can be done without it... but I don't recommend it.

You can get an impeller tool for about $15, and the alignment tool is $150. BUT... you can rent it for about $50 from SBT.

ok so im trying to get the motor out now that i finally have some time. how does the drive shaft that goes from the crank to the impeller come off the crank. does it just slide off or am i missing something cuz it doesnt want to come off

slide engine forward to get it out.
Remove jet pump to get drive shaft out to to re align engine
