I bought my 92 seadoo xp 587, flushed the fuel tank, rebuilt carbs, new fuel lines, etc. It was a great ski all summer long. Then I went to start it recently and it was hydro-locked with oil. After doing some research it looked like my inner crank seals were bad so I decided to pull the engine and replace it or fix it. After I pulled the engine I noticed that there is alot of oil leaking from my rotary valve cover, specifically from the bottom most hole (See Picture). When the rotary valve cover is held up-right a steady steam of oil flows out of this small hole so im guessing this is actually the cause of my problems.

I spent quite a bit of time looking in the manual and online but cant find what would cause a steady stream of oil to flow from this hole.

Anyone have any ideas what could cause this?

Thanks alot for your help!

There could be a few causes for that.
1. The oil pump seal could be bad and leaking into that area and draining from that hole.
2. The rotary shaft seal could be bad and draining from that area.
3. The crank seals could have been bad enough to fill the cases with oil and this area too and draining from the hole when you removed the cover.

On an unrelated note what oil are you using. Green oil as in your picture is not typical?

Thanks I think it might be my oil pump because it leaked quite a bit of oil into my hull in the few days since I pulled my engine...

The oil is walmart quicksilver oil. I know its crappy oil but I got a bunch with the ski and I read its not actually to bad on the 587 engines? But i plan to switch to a better oil when my tank is low.

back in the day, seadoo recommended the tc-w2 (at the time, later tc-w3) oil for the 580, but later switched to recommending API-TC mineral oil.

you will probably be ok with the TC-W3 but it wouldn't hurt to swap to the seadoo mineral oil.

Hope you find the culprit. Can I add a question to this thread? I recently rebuilt a yellow 597, and it's near the end of breakin. I have been using only XPS synthetic, and plan to continue. Is that oil OK to use in the old yeller?
I thought it was, but I'm still learning.
