my 1990 seadoo spi runs fine outside of the water but when i get it in the water in runs when i push in throttle but dies as soon as i let the throttle go.. any ideas? i took it to a mechanic about a month ago because it wouldnt start, it was just the battery then and he also did a compression check at that time and said it had great compression.

Does it have grey fuel lines? Has the carb been cleaned?

Nope... a 90 would have rubber lines.

If it has good compression ... I'd say your idle is too low.

Out of the water it should be up around 3000 rpm, and in the water it will be 1500.

i just talked to a mechanic today and hes gonna rebuild the carb, he told me something about the idle needing adjusted also so we'll see thanks for your replys guys
