89 Seadoo starting problems!

Hello All!

I am new to the forum, and new to the PWC community.

I am currently rebuilding a 89 Seadoo SP, and having a few issues getting the machine to start, below is the symptoms I am encountering:

At first I could get the seadoo to crank, but wouldn't start, I figured out I wasn't getting any spark to the plugs. After some research, I tried starting the seadoo without the lanyard and it started right up! so out of curiosity I plug the lanyard in and hit the stop button, and once again it started when I hit the start button. However, once I shut it down the machine will not even crank anymore, I get nothing now when I hit the start. It well crank however if I touch the two post on the solenoid, so I know I have to replace that at the least.

My questions is, by replacing the solenoid will that fix the original issue with the starter and tether switch, or is there another issue involved?

First I have a question.
Are you putting the the 1989 engine into the 1992 ski? Or was it in before and worked properly. Now you are just rebuilding the engine?
 
There are a lot of experts here, unfortunately I am not one of them. Hopefully someone chimes in.
Did you have to change the carburetor, or add a fuel pump. I am just curious.
 
This is a little strange, but follow along with your wiring diagram in the shop manual (I am assuming for the 92 at this point).

One side of the low current connections on the solenoid is supplied + 12v via the 5a fuse to the battery.

To activate the solenoid, the other low-current connection is supplied a ground originating with a lug inside the mag housing and going thru the stop switch, tether switch, start switch. Any of the connections in this path or the switches themselves could be the problem. Activate the switches multiple times to see if they are just a little stubborn. Likewise wiggle the various connectors. I personally found on one 89 SP that the terminal lug itself, even though looking good had a bad connection. Could tell that was why the previous owner gave up on it.

So I resolved the problems! turns out the original owner bypassed the speed limiter in the stator, so I needed to figure out the wiring they used and re-wire to the speed limiter in the electrical box. a fuse had also blown. seadoo runs now!
Now I have to start a new post as oil is pouring out my exhaust, grr
