i have read tons of posts on fuel issues on older skis. i have good compression, new plugs, new fuel lines and filter and fuel. starts runs but falls on its face when given more than half throttle,,,, unless you pull out the choke about a 1/4 of the way. come on guys this is probably an easy fix right?

i do have a spare ski same engine and everything i have for parts. that one spun a crank bearing.

thanks for the help

OK... I'm going to give you 2 answers.

1) There is nothing wrong with the stock carb, and fuel pump. (as long as you know how to rebuild it)

If you can get it to run with half choke... then the carb isn't clean. You have a passage that is plugged up, or the pop-off pressure is not set right.

2) With what I said above... the first thing I did when restoring my 90 Si was to pitch the round body carb, and external fuel pump... and I replaced it with an early style SBN38.

If you chose to do a swap, I can tell you what jetting to use.

One last thing... if you have a secondary, vacuum fuel valve... remove it.
