I have noticed that on several different 787 pics I have seen the purple and white exhaust used. I currently have both to choose from so are there any pros or cons so I could pick which to use

thanks

they're the same part number, all of the carbed 787 pipes are the same, only difference is the paint. the 95-96 ones were purple, 97s were white

i'd use the one that's either already been repaired, or has been sitting the longest since last having water run through it, all of those weld plugs are on borrowed time at this point.

+2 without a doubt, even the cleanest fresh water ones fail. Just have that bottom plug welded while it's out so your not doing the "reach around" with the JB weld.

Well im glad you all said something... I havent even looked at the exhaust long enough to notice plugs... So what exactly should I do to sure up this exhaust. I have a tig welder so im more than capable of welding whatever. Should I just pop out whatever plugs and weld in a new bare steel plug ?

there are four plugs on the pipes, where they cast the water jacket into the pipe, so they could get the casting sand out. these were welded up afterwards with an aluminum plug, and they slowly corrode out over time, eventually leaking. look for what looks like cracking paint around the plugs, usually it is a sign that the plug is leaking water under the paint and it's peeled it back. since you have the tools and the skill, you can replace the aluminum plug on your own for almost free. some people have used jb weld, or drain plugs, but a TIG is definitely the way to go.

Awesome... another reason to use my tig torch.

On another note I seem to remember that the water box which came with the 1997 spx (White exhaust) is somewhat larger than the purple box that came with the 95. Am I just remembering incorrectly? If that is the case is either one better or worse to use?

thanks
