RESTO 717 - filled with Colorado river mud

Bought this - PO said all was good. Compression was 30 in front/90 in back. Pulled the top off and it was filled with mud, literally. Puled the crank out, cleaned out all the mud and this is what I have left.

This is my first tear down. Figuring on new creak seals, rings and needle bearings, honing the jugs and putting everything back together.

I'd mic the cylinder bores and determine if they are still usable. I'd definitely replace the pistons and rings and the other items you mention. Now is the time. :) Flush the hell out of everything

I'd take the crank and put it in a container with gas and work everything back and forth. Clean all that crap out of there. Blow it off with low pressure air. and do it again. Everything should turn smooth, no roughness at all.

Next I'd soak the crankshaft in Injection oil or you can use any kind of oil. You can put it back in the casing to do that so you won't use much oil. You want good oil everywhere and lots of it. I'd work it back and forth a lot, moving all the bearings with special attention to the connecting rods. I left a crank soaking for a week while I went on vacation. I didn't have mud in there though.

If you want to save that crank that is the best way I can think of. Good Luck !!
 
Is there a table some place with the tolerances on the cylinders for the various bores?

Rather than injection oil, how about diesel on soaking the crank?

Other than the exhaust - anything else to flush? Have some build-up on the jug but water is flowing through them.
