The manual does not show the black member that goes around the fuel filter??
but the diy/SBT vids do?? so I did. Should I take them off??
I'm having starting issues on one motor and the other one dies if if I dont throttle up??

Excellent rep to you jim and qstrom for diy :hurray:

Now the Q is do I need that diaphragm because manual does not show it as part of rebuild??

OK.....

from your signature... it says you have a 99 sportster. that would make it a sportster 1800. (right?)

If it is... you have two 720 engines with single 40SBN pumper carbs. (so you don't have a "Mag" and "PTO" carb)

If that is the correct boat... you have separate fuel pumps, and in that case... no, you would not have the diaphragm and check valves in the carb(s).

Thank you dr.
Yes it is the 1800 twin 717.
So I should remove diaphragm. Off with the carbs again

Nope... it shouldn't make a difference. Right now, that diaphragm is just acting like a gasket. So, you don't need to remove it.

******EDIT******

On second thought... if you used a diaphragm without any of the cut-away's... it will plug off the fuel inlet. (where the filter is)

So... yes... you should go back and remove it.

In short, YES. Anything that is there , needs to be put back , wether its a new part or a cleaned up original part.

Sorry about the misinformation. I thought your question was wether or not to put all the parts back in that you took out , after looking at a diagram that didnt show the specific parts.
I will keep my big trap shut.

^No worries

I got what you meant...

After everything starboard motor failed to start every time
Got it to plane but cavatating pretty bad..
