657 xp stator compatibilty

Hi there, i have a 1993 650xp which has no spark, also have a full electric box in working condition which i was told was from another 1993 650xp. the original electric box has the seperate cdi unit and 5 wire stator, is there any way the other electric box(with no seperate cdi/amplifier) will start the engine? as in the ski has 5 wire stator, the electric box is designed for 4 wire stator, only wire not connected is white wire but this new electric box does not require it. will i need 4 wire stator or can i get it to fire up? thanks

The 93 had a 657 5-wire electric system. If you have a four wire box you were mislead. Open the box, unclip the bid module and tell us the number on it. Should be 278000503 ? On the top of motor Magnito is a tag with motor size. Bill

thanks, i will have a look tomorrow, what is the best course of action from here, can the stator plate be fitted from a four wire type engine, or is it another electric box?

sorry only just got to check the number today and it is 278000305. what can i do? i dont fancy forking out for another electric box, will the four wire stator fit this engine?

NO. There is a conflict of electronic systems. five wire flywheels are different.

657 and 657X

278000305 changed to 278000071 1993 XP 657cc engine, then changed in '94 to
278000305 1994 xp 657X engine. It is confuseing once someone mixes and we try to sort it out. The 657X engine is a four wire system. Three components that match
can be interchangable. Crank snouts bevel are the same.
1. mpem & harness
2. stator
3. flywheel

The 657cc engine and the 657X engine are two different mechanicals.

Every year an accessory changes, then a new mpem is invented to the new product.
ie. When VTS was added, a new mpem with that product electrical function was created, and is specific that year/model only.
