With proper care, maintanance, due diligence, and a little luck, what could one hope for in terms of hourly life span?

There is another fairly long and extensive thread on this, I think I may have been the OP even, about a year ago now. I'll see if I can find it again in a bit and post the link to your thread.

However there was no exact hourly number or hourly range even... they should last hundreds of hours without needing more than the occassional supercharger rebuild if not abused on a regular basis. There are things that can be done to improve the longevity of the 4TEC engines though... I'll have to find the link to that thread though I cannot recall everything.

Thanks Michael, Oh by the way, 8 or 9 days ago I posted a thread labled " drive shaft and impeller boot assy". You had asked for some pics but I was having problems with my computer re: attachments. There are two pics there now if and when you get a chance to take a look.
Thanks for all your help

Wow, alot of info, and most of it not sunshine and rainbows, but worth the read. Thanks Michael.
I was a 2 stroke guy for decades.
I had a twin pair of beautiful '99 GTX LTDs that I loved, but had to sell due to the impending 2 stroke ban looming overhead. That friggin piece of legislation was supposed to have become effective the first of the year, every year, since '09 on "All federal recreation waterways including the Colorado River System...at least that is what I recall reading when I reviewed the bill several years ago. It appeared there was no stopping it. Well the "2 Stroke Lobby" (for lack of a better name), has been succesful at staying/postponing this piece of legislation, but as I understand it, the hammer is going to drop Jan.1,2013 (At the least, in my neck of the woods, from essentially The Grand Canyon to Davis Dam On the Colorado River System.
I had no choice but to go four stroke. So it will behoove me to become a student of this forum, and become as proficient a DIY guy that I can be. I have found that dealerships in the Vegas area, although necessary, can NOT be trusted....Theres a shocker. LOL

How long have you had your RXT's now?

I've had mine for almost 2 years (though last season here was a bust due to the severe drought Texas had, I barely got to run it... 4 hrs all summer long). I've come to love the darned thing, couldn't imagine having a different PWC and certainly no desire to ever have a 2-stroke model (my sister has a mid-90's Kawasaki JetSki 2-stroke... yuk!).

The 4TEC engines haven't been around for all that long though and BRP definitely made some mistakes... ceramic clutch washers, hollow exhaust valve stems, among other things. But when they're well maintained and running right they're an awesome force to be reconned with! I love the size of the RXT especially compared to my siss 2-seater JetSki, and the power oooooh it's not quite as good a hole shot as my jetboat (550hp!) but for it's hull size it's darned close!!! 8-)

Since the Spring of 08-

Dont get me wrong, I LOVE These RXTs Their power, performance, and handling for box stock are GREAT. The power to weight ratio makes me giddy. My wife and I are in our (ahem) mid 50's and we wanted the stability of the 3 seater for her because the water behind Hoover Dam (Lake Mead) and on the river below it, can get REAL ROUGH. And the thought of a 4Tec SCIC under my butt had my head bobbin' like a rear dash doll :D
That being said, I want to learn how to do, what I need to do, to take care of 'em proper, and enjoy 'em for a long time.

Keep reading and contribute to this forum, you will learn oh so much... my RXT runs great, I keep coming back here to read and contribute because #1 it helps to share the knowledge learned from my own experiences and #2 I learn about things that haven't happened to my own watercraft yet which gives me a leg up if/when I encounter the same or similar problem.
