I have an '04 GTI and I think the post has gone bad. I was able to compare it to a known working post.
Problem: With the key off when I connect the battery the relay in the rear electrical box was energizing (clicking). and staying energized. From what I can find that relay turns on the MPEM and then checks the code in the key. Ski actually works fine but I was concerned that this would drain the battery. so I decided to fix it.
Luckily I have a matching ski to compare to, which helped to quickly diagnose the issue.
it appears there are 2 reed switched in this post, is that correct?
I am curious to know what they both do, anyone know?

Attached is some detail from testing a known working post.

According to your wiring diagram (for 2004 GTI), the DESS switch has 4 wires (Black, White/grey, Black/yellow, Black/purple).

Near as I can see: Black goes to common ground with the Start/Stop switch (pin 2-20 in mpem), White/grey (pin 2-21 in mpem), Black/yellow (pin 2-22 in mpem), Black/purple joins the Mode/Set buttons (pin 2-6 in mpem).

I can't comment on "two" reed switches...no direct knowledge of such...sorry!

Thanks for the comments...question on the black/purple wire. I have a 98 Sportser 1800 jet boat (717 engines) and the old DESS had only 3 wires...it's essentially missing the 4th wire that comes with the new DESS posts I got from SBT Parts. Do you have a suggestion on how I wire up the new DESS post given it's 4 wires and the old one is 3 wire. My guess is to just cap off the black/purple wire.??

I have an 04 GTX that does the same thing. I replaced the DESS post with one that matched the stock 3 wire. Problem turned out to be the ECU, which I still haven't replaced. Hopefully yours is fixed by adding the correct DESS post.

Thanks all for jumping in on this...I called SBT and spoke with the technician. If you have 3 leads on a DESS for SeaDoo and get the newer 4 lead model, it's OK...just ignore the black/purple on (cap it off). I followed their instructions and tested it successfully this morning on my 98 Sporster.
