I was checking out a thread last night previously posted by Doc Honda where he buffed out a dingy old hull with 3M Super Duty Compound and the ski had a showroom finish afterwards. Amazing it was the same ski. Cudos Doc. I picked up a bottle this morning but at $22 a quart I want to make sure this is the right stuff for my needs.

First off, I don't have a buffer. I will be doing it by hand.
I just want to clean up my skis, they got some shine but could use a good clean up. The worst thing I have is where my wife ran over the back corner of my ski with hers and left a rub mark with red paint on my gel coat. I do have a few minor scratches. Plus unlike Doc's project where he was working with a bare hull, I'm working around the decals.

Can I use this on the color bumpers too?

And what do you guys wash your skis with?

Super duty compound is meant for mechanical polishing... not hand polishing. You will probably just make more scratches. It takes some power to get the sharp compound to break down, and let the rouge do it's job.

If you want to hand polish, you will be better off using a cleaning wax. (Liquid Turtle wax) It will protect against stains too.

If you have sun faded bumpers... use a little heat on them. It will bring back the color... and the wax will make it shine.

Sorry... I was probably beating my kid with one hand, and trying to type with the other.

Should have been "Sun Faded Bumpers". (fixed above)

Just poking a little fun, hell we all make mistakes. BTW I use "Ice" on the vinyl, and handlebar protector and the whole ski. Between polishes.

Jim, sorry I tried finding it again and didn't find it. Hopefully Doc comes along and can point you to it.

Jake, I'm pretty sure its called Ice, but it might be Blue Ice. It's in the automotive section, I use it on the cars also, its expensive, but really goes on and comes off easy. Kinda like your sister.
