Hi guys
Sorry first for my bad english.
I'm writing from Switzerland, Europe.
In the next 100 days I would like to buy a used Seadoo Challenger.
It would be the first boat I will buy.....
Depending on my budget, it will be a 2x110 or a 1x240 HP EFI powered engine.
I'm interested in 2 main points:
- Fuel consumption
- durability
I found this figures in another forum. The source was BoatTest.com:
240 EFI on a X20
RPM MPH KNOTS GPH MPG
1000 3.6 3.1 1.6 2.22
1500 4.7 4.0 2.2 2.11
2000 5.8 5.0 3.6 1.60
2500 6.4 5.5 4.4 1.44
3000 6.9 6.0 5.9 1.16
3500 10.4 9.0 7.5 1.38
4000 27.2 23.7 8.6 3.16
4500 34.4 29.9 10.4 3.30
5000 38.9 33.8 17.8 2.19
5500 44.0 38.3 22.6 1.95
6000 50.1 43.5 25.4 1.97
Seems like the 240 EFI will need between 17.8 to 25.4 GPH on 5'000-6'000 rpm.
To have fun, I think the mostly used rpm's are above 5'000 and the consumption of the 240 EFI will be there aprox at 22-23 GPH.

It's a testsheet from mercurys 250 HP Optimax which should be the same engine which will be used in the also avaiable 250 HP Opti M2 with jetdrive.
This engine will take 28.5 GPH at 5'000 rpm and 41.2 GPH at 5'800 rpm. The 250 HP is an 3047ccm engine and the 240 EFI has only 2507 ccm.
So I think the cunsumption for the 240 EFI on "fun-riding" must be around 22-23 GPH.
Is that true?
Unfortunately I can't found any tests of the 2x110 rotax engine in the challenger who tells the facts about the consumption.
I guess it will be the same as the 240 EFI needs....
About the durability:
I'm a carmechanic with lot of experience on motorbykes (KTM, Ducati) and several car makes (VW, Audi, BMW). That's a bit the reason, why I'm more interested in the rotax engines.
On the other side I will ride the boat next year for about 6 months on the adriatic sea. So I want to spend the time with riding and not with working on the motors.....
Some shit can happens. But not more times weekly I hope...
If I would buy an 240 EFI or the 2x110: I will go to premix without the oilpumps.
And if I would buy the 2x110, I would first completely renew the engines and the jetpumps. Hopefully the engines will survive then the next 500 hours....
The decision beteen the two engine tipes seems to drive me cracy.
Hope I get some usefull inputs in this forum.
Thank you guys!
